Mary Maguire
A native of Providence, Rhode Island, Mary Maguire studied design and painting at Rhode Island School of Design. Shortly after graduation, she moved to New York City to pursue a career in book and magazine publishing.

Her first ten years in book publishing were spent on the editorial side at Alfred A. Knopf Publishing and Random House, where she worked on everything from memoirs to novels to works of history, from cookbooks to coffee table books. While at Knopf, Mary maintained a small design business, illustrating for Newsweek, Good Housekeeping and other national magazines.

Three years at Conde Nast Publications followed; in a small department within the company, special book and magazine projects were created for various Conde Nast Publications, including The New Yorker, Vogue and Conde Nast Traveler.

A stint in the fashion world began in 1993. Maguire was Features Editor of Lauren magazine, a lifestyle magazine that Hearst Publications was then developing with designer Ralph Lauren.

In 1995, Mary took a position with The Muppets at the Jim Henson Company as Editorial Director, helping to build a yearly list of over one hundred books, published in more than one hundred countries.

After eighteen years in New York City, Mary recently settled in Lyme, Connecticut. In her backyard, she renovated an outbuilding as a design and painting studio.

She has shown her paintings at Pandion Gallery, Fishers Island, New York, at John Rugge Gallery, Nantucket, Massachusetts and Morelock Antiques in Old Lyme, Connecticut.

From her studio, Mary also runs an antique business specializing in 19th century folk art and other early Americana. For more information, click on the following link: marymaguireartandantiques.com
